Veitch Kicks Off 2011 Re-Election Bid

Saratoga Springs – Flanked by friends, family and supporters outside of the Canfield Casino in Congress Park, Matthew Veitch announced his interest to continue serving the residents of Saratoga Springs as their representative on the County Board of Supervisors.

“It’s been an honor and great opportunity to serve the people of Saratoga Springs as their Supervisor,” said Veitch. “I am fully committed, if given the opportunity, to continue effectively representing our City for the next two years.”

Veitch touched upon some of the key goals he has worked toward during his time in office. Paramount among those goals was the creation of a trails program throughout the County. As Chairman of the Trails Committee, which was created through his encouragement, Veitch worked toward the planning and construction of more than seven miles of new trails for use by City and County residents. These trails have provided new outdoor recreational opportunities and family enjoyment for many years to come.

As Chairman of the Racing Committee and more recently Chairman of the Legislative & Research Committee, Veitch led the call and solicited support from surrounding towns for the State to return VLT (Video Lottery Terminal) municipality aid to Saratoga Springs and Saratoga County. This advocacy ensured that state leadership recognized the importance of this issue to Saratoga Springs, a goal that was eventually met.

Throughout his announcement, Veitch noted the significant progress that has occurred working with neighboring communities during his tenure as Supervisor.

“When I first took office our relationships at the county were strained, as a city we were focused on our own issues and had lost sight that we are an integral part in a much larger picture.  Since that time we’ve worked together and progress has been made, our neighbors have recognized the important role Saratoga Springs has in the County,” said Veitch.

Veitch will be working to serve Saratoga Springs for a third term as Supervisor; he was first elected in 2007. Although years have passed, the key theme that has become a hallmark of Veitch’s experience, as an elected official is still more than apparent; working together will get things accomplished.

“Issues that come up are not Democrat or Republican, they are just issues that we are elected to solve and success is not about personal gain or glory, but working with others as a team, to constructively work through our problems in order to make this City and County the best they can be,” Veitch said in his announcement.

Matthew Veitch is a fifth-generation Saratogian, and along with his wife Stephanie are the proud parents to two boys, Jacob and David.
