Veitch Announces Candidacy
Matthew Veitch, a life-long resident of Saratoga Springs, declared his candidacy for the office of Supervisor at a gathering with friends and supporters at High Rock Park.
In a speech that focused on beginnings, Veitch brought the crowd back to the time of Saratoga’s founding and the early years that were characterized by the significance of its healing springs that were said to bring about miracles. Adding the story of his family’s start in the city several generations ago, Veitch described many memories from High Rock Park, serving as a place to play baseball, sled down the hill and climb the rocks.
“Now, at this very place that has proven to be a starting point for my life and for so much of what this city stands for, it is time for me to help bring Saratoga Springs to a new beginning,” said Veitch. “There is no time for us to sit idly, as our city has slowed to a paralyzing standstill, with little progress being made on any front.”
Veitch then went on to explain his view of the office of Supervisor, formed by his experiences as a citizen, as well witnessing the city’s deteriorating relationship with the County Government, which should be one of its closest allies.
“Working with the County demands a careful balance of issues,” added Veitch. “However, recently the city has tried to impose its will on the county, with unsuccessful results. I will always put the unique needs of the city first, but I will bring civility, cooperation and a new dedication to rectify our strained relationship with the County. There is so much more we can do as a partner with the County to make this a better city.”
Veitch closed by summing up his vision for the future of the Saratoga Springs.
“There are many issues facing the city, and I believe we are at the beginning of
a new way; a way where working together and putting ones political and
self-interests aside to do what is right is no longer the exception, but the
rule.”
