Veitch Comments on Uses for County Funds to the City
AFFORDABLE HOUSING
ONE POSSIBILITY FOR USE OF FUNDS Matthew Veitch, candidate for Supervisor of
Saratoga Springs, today said he was pleased to hear that Saratoga County is
planning to disburse $5 million in County funds to municipalities. Saratoga
Springs is set to receive $783,226 of those funds.
“Saratoga County continues to flourish,” said Veitch. “Through the hard work of
the Board of Supervisors over the years, the County has a healthy fund
balance. I support the move of the County giving back to towns, villages, and
cities in this County”
The County has disbursed the revenue in the past. In 2001, $3.5 million was
given back, and in 2005, $5 million. Even though the funds have been made
available to Saratoga Springs in the past, Veitch believes it should be treated
like a one-time bonus for the City.
“I do not believe that these funds should be used for tax relief,” Veitch
said. “The city has many capital projects on the table, such as the new Police
and Fire Stations, and the new Recreation Center. It could also be put away for
future use, such as funding the Affordable Housing Trust Fund. There is no
guarantee that these funds will continue to be given to the City.”
Veitch also said that if elected Supervisor, he will work hard to continue the
success of the County, so that funds continue to come back to the City.
“It is no accident that Saratoga County is so prosperous,” Veitch said. “As
Supervisor, I will work with the other Supervisors to continue the fiscally
conservative methods that have kept Saratoga County the lowest-taxed County in
New York State.”
