Saratoga Gaming & Raceway Foundation Now Taking Applications

SARATOGA SPRINGS —The Saratoga Gaming and Raceway Foundation is pleased to announce that the 2011 grant program is now underway.  The Foundation began accepting applications on September 6th, and will continue to accept applications until October 18th.  The awards are given at the November County Board of Supervisors regular meeting in Ballston Spa.

For 2011, the Foundation will have $30,000 in grant monies available for applicants.  The monies are a combination between funds donated by Saratoga Casino and Raceway, and the Saratoga Harness Horseperson’s Association.  The Saratoga County Board of Supervisors administers the grants.

The officers for the Saratoga Gaming and Raceway Foundation for 2011 are Supervisor Matthew E. Veitch-Saratoga Springs, Chairman; Supervisor Thomas N. Wood III-Saratoga and Chairman of the County Board of Supervisors, Vice-Chairman; Supervisor Bill Peck-Northumberland, Secretary; George ‘Skip’ Carlson-Saratoga Gaming and Raceway-Treasurer; Barry Segel-at-large member and President-Saratoga Harness Horseperson’s Association.

Veitch, who has chaired the organization for the last four years, said, “We are fortunate to be able to give back a small amount to organizations that do so much good for our residents.  As we have done each year since 2002, the funds go to not-for-profit organizations that help with gambling addiction and other social effects of having a gaming facility in our County.  We also reserve some of the funds for organizations that deal with education, arts, youth and senior programs as well.”
