Why I Want to Be Your Supervisor

My name is Matthew Veitch and I want to be your new Supervisor. My family has a long history in Saratoga Springs. I think this City is the best place in the world to live, and I want to work to continue its success, and make it even better for the future.

I am a 1990 Graduate of Saratoga High School, a 1994 Graduate of SUNY Plattsburgh, and a 2005 Graduate of Pace University. I live on Casino Drive with my wife, Stephanie, and two sons, Jacob and David. My job is with Verizon Communications in their Albany office. I manage the company's assets located in the Wall Street District of Manhattan, and in Nassau County. My job is rewarding and fulfilling, and I love what I do for a living.

Over the past few years, I have worked to make the city a better place.  I am in my third year of my term on the City's Zoning Board of Appeals. As a member of the Southwest Neighborhood Association, I have worked for three years on getting a multi-use trail on Geyser Road. We had our first success in 2006 by securing a $25,000 grant from the Assembly. When completed, this trail will be a link that people can walk or bike on, from the outer residential areas connecting to Downtown. The County's Green Infrastructure plan matches my trail vision for the City, and I will work to push for the implementation of the County's plan.

We need to take a fresh look at the City's role within the County.  City and County success go hand-in-hand, and we should partner with the County when it is mutually beneficial. But my first responsibility lies with our City and its residents, and I am not afraid to stand up for the unique interests of the City. We need to achieve a sense of balance between City and County needs. There is so much more that we can do as a partner with the County to make this a better City.

I am proud to do my part to help in the community. I am a member of the Saratoga County EOC, the Saratoga Springs Historical Society, The Saratoga-Wilton Elks, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the Saratoga County Children˘s Committee. I have met many wonderful people in these organizations, and I am proud to know that there are so many people who give back to our community, every day.

I want you to get to know me better, and see the dedication and ideas I have for this community. I am willing to work with anyone, regardless of political affiliation, to do what is right for Saratoga Springs.  You can find out more about me at www.veitchforsupervisor.com. I will run a positive and civil campaign, because through intelligent debate we can achieve the best solutions for Saratoga Springs.
