Looking Forward to 2010
|
It has been a great honor and a pleasure serving you as your Supervisor, and I want to sincerely thank all who supported me on November 3rd , along with all those who voted and everyone in this great community. I have worked hard to represent all Saratogians in my term as Supervisor, and will continue to be responsive to your needs, and to be effective as your representative to the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors. As I look back upon my first term in office, I was proud to have been selected as the chairman of several County committees in 2009. I was the chairman of the first Trails committee in Saratoga County, which is building hiking trails on County forest lands. We built the first of many trails on County-owned land, and are working on our second and third trail projects, to be completed early next year. I was chairman of the Racing Committee, which spent 2009 fighting for out fair share of VLT revenues that the State ultimately took from us. The committee also pushed for the installation of VLTs at Aqueduct Racetrack, because the State loses an estimated $1 million per day by not having the machines installed. We also had the Saratoga County day at the races in August, where County residents received free admission to the racetrack for the day. We are hoping to make that event bigger and better next year. As Chairman of the Green committee, we studied ways for our County government to operate in a more environmentally friendly and cost-effective manner. We are going to be presenting to the County Board of Supervisors our recommendations for adoption this month. I hope to continue serving your interests on these and my other committees for the next two years. Looking forward, my hope is that we can continue in our work building bridges with our neighbors in order to realize the full potential as a City of what the County has to offer. We need to learn how we fit in as a community with the GlobalFoundries project, and where we can get involved in the economic development of our County, while still maintaining our distinctive character as a City. We also need to be aware of the impacts on the City with the growth in the surrounding towns. We need to continue to promote those things that make our City unique, and to remind ourselves that we must work keep our status as a strong community within Saratoga County. When I first got involved and ran for public office, my hope was that we as your leaders could work together, in a cooperative fashion, to make the right decisions for our community. Our success as a community depends on leaders to constructively solve the issues that confront us, in a bi-partisan way. Again, I thank you for re-electing me Supervisor, and look forward to continuing to serving you in my capacity as Supervisor for another term. |
