City Should Join County Radio System

It has been an honor serving you in my first few months as your representative on the Saratoga County Board of Supervisors.  I am learning about how the Board works, and I am personally working hard to build a positive relationship with my fellow Supervisors.  There are several items that the County is working on at the current time, and it is my duty as your elected representative to inform you of what is happening.  I would also like to offer my opinion on how this will affect you as a citizen of our great City.

First off, I want to inform you of the County Committees I have been appointed to.  I am a member of the Economic Development, Racing, Social Programs, and Public Safety committees.  At the County level, all business must be discussed in a committee before being voted on by the full Board of Supervisors.  I was also appointed to the Saratoga Gaming and Raceway Foundation and the Saratoga County Council on Autism.  I believe that these appointments will give me a broad knowledge of the County Government, and allow me to be an effective Supervisor.

In my role as a member of the Public Safety Committee, I have learned that the County is constructing a new Emergency Radio System.  When completed it will be a cost-effective and reliable system, to enhance public safety services within the County.  This system will be available to the City’s Police and Fire Departments, if we choose to be a part of it.  In my opinion, the benefits for the City joining this system are two-fold:  First, the City gets to be a partner in a system in which none of the construction and maintenance costs will be paid by City taxes.  Only our County taxes will be paying for the construction and maintenance of this system, so I believe it only makes sense that the City becomes a part of this system.  Second, it will be reliable, with numerous radio towers, to provide full coverage for the County, so the system will never be ‘down’.  I will continue to work with the City Council to keep them updated on the progress of the project as the County moves forward with it. Hopefully, by working together, we can make the right decision for our City.

During my campaign, there were several themes that I expressed as a candidate:  we must build a bridge with our County neighbors so the City can become an active partner with the County to solve problems that affect us all; to inform you of County services (for example, the Radio System) that are available to us, and to be open, responsible, and professional.  I will continue to do my best to reach across party lines, and work in a bi-partisan manner, to represent all Saratogians.  I will continue to keep you informed as to what I am doing during my term as your Supervisor.
