Born at Saratoga Hospital in 1972, Matthew is fifth-Generation Saratogian. Eldest of Michael and Gail Veitch's five children, he is a 1990 graduate of Saratoga High School. He earned his Bachelor's Degree in Teaching from Plattsburgh State University in 1994. Matthew also earned an Associate's Degree in Telecommunications in 2005 from Pace University in New York City. He lives on Casino Drive, with his wife Stephanie, and two Children-Jacob and David.
Matthew is currently employed by Verizon Telecommunications, Inc., and works as a manager in the Network Asset Management department, Coding Standards and Circuit Activation group, located in Glens Falls. His job duties include project management for all the major projects the group undertakes. Formerly, his job duties included managing approximately $1Billion in Verizon's fixed assets in The Wall Street district in Manhattan and Nassau County, as well as offices in Ohio. Prior to his work in Asset Management, he was a Customer Service Administrator in the Troy, NY installation call center, where he was a member of CWA local 1118, and served as a Union Steward in that office.
Matthew comes from a long line of Veitch family members that have served the City. Matthew's grandfather, Donald, was the Executive Director of the City's Urban Renewal Project from 1965-1986. His father Michael was a teacher at SSHS for over 30 years. Kevin Veitch served as the City's Code Enforcement Officer for many years. His brother Greg is the Saratoga Springs Chief of Police. His other brother Paul is an Sergeant in the Investigative Division of the Police department. Michael Veitch serves as the Business Manager of the Department of Public Works, and his cousin Ryan is also in DPW. His sister Mary Austin works for Empire State College.
From 2016-2017, Matthew served as Chairman of the City's Open Space Committee, which was involved in the acquisition of the Pitney Meadows Community Farm, as well as also recommending purchases of land around Saratoga Lake, the City's water source.
Matthew is dedicated to making the City a better place, and he is a member of several civic organizations:

He has formerly served as a board member of the
Saratoga Springs History Museum, where he was Treasurer, the Saratoga's
All-American Celebration committee, where he was also Treasurer, and on the
board of the Gateway House of Peace, a hospice home located in the Town of
